BiographyYuri Gorbachev, internationally acclaimed artist, arrived in the United States from the former USSR in 1991. His work is represented in the permanent collections of the Louvre, the Kremlin Museum, the United Nations, The White House, and more than 20 museums worldwide. Gorbachev designed the annual Christmas ads for the famous Russian Vodka "STOLICHNAYA” starting in 1994 and his popular "Holiday" paintings have been seen around the world in hundreds of magazines each year. His work is exhibited in galleries and museums in the United States, Asia, Europe, Eastern Europe and Australia. His first visit to Asia showed him his true path as a painter – his connection to the Orient was immediate and dynamic and influenced both his style and technique. For the past seven years Gorbachev has traveled extensively; his artistic development progressed from his naïve style to his most recent intricate works. He uses a unique sophisticated technique developed and used only by him with precious metals like gold and copper along with specially formulated lacquers over oil on canvas.
Now living in New York City, he is the brightest and most well-known of the artists who came to America from the former USSR. Americans of culture recognize Russia through his art. His energy and enthusiasm for Russia and the Ukraine, where he spent the last twenty years of his life before moving to New York, are expressed in his work and help viewers understand emotionally and intellectually the culture which fostered his great energy and talent.
