Dr. Jerry McKellar
Bronze Sculpture
Biography Dr. Jerry McKellar lives in scenic Washington State with his wife, Gayle, and their two children. After graduating from dental school and serving a term in the military, Jerry established his dental practice in 1971.
Jerry is an avid fisherman and outdoorsman and is a strong supporter of several conservation organizations. His donations of bronze art have helped these organizations in their fund-raising efforts to help wildlife and preserve habitat.
As a self-taught artist, he worked in several mediums before concentrating on bronze sculpture in 1987. Since that time he has completed numerous limited edition pieces and has received numerous awards and increasing critical acclaim world-wide.
Characteristic of Jerry’s work is his realistic style and use of impeccable detail. His professional background as a dentist is reflected in the structural accuracy of the anatomy of his sculptures. His bronzes range from wildlife to human figures which focus on the accurate depiction of the culture, ritual, or tribal affiliation. Notable are his Native American dancers and exotic African figures. Jerry spends much time traveling to different parts of the world doing photographic studies which inspire his future work.
"Your detail is so fine--It gives me great pride to be part of the culture. Through you, our spirit lives"Terry Eaglefeather - Chippewa/Cree
An artist who is both accomplished and inventive, he is constantly expanding his style and subject matter. Most recently he began experimentation with a variety of patina effects and several abstract contemporary bronzes. His diversity of style often prompts viewers to believe the sculptures are created by more than one artist.
"I feel that a variety of approaches keeps me inspired and unpredictable, so the work is always fresh." - Jerry McKellar
